Pumpkins in May???

Yes, that's right, pumpkins in May. We have a pumpkin growing contest going on at work and I wasn't originally planning on participating, but a co-worker talked to me into it. He begged and pleaded and twisted my arm. Ok, maybe the conversation went something more like:
"You should just do it."
"OK."
These little guys were planted a little over a week ago. Now, I've been told that pumpkins are water leaches and should be pretty near drown so my partner-in-pumpkin-crime has been helping me. He waters them in the morning and I water them at night. Except, after Sunday night. Somehow that little part of our brains that says "water your pumpkin seeds" was being drown out by everything else that was going on and they were forgotten for 2 entire days. The horror! Last night when it dawned on me I headed and you can imagine my surprise. Two nights before there hadn't been a single shift in the soil. That puny little plant might not look like much to most, but it took a lot in me to keep from screaming for joy when I witness this beauty. I kill pretty much every living thing. My daughter Tyler is almost 2 years old and I'm lucky she's made it this far!
I've got 3 sprouting so far, but October is about a minute away, so we will see how this new adventure of mine progresses and if I can keep these little guys alive. My goal is to make it far enough to have at least one pumpkin, even if it's the size of a pencil top eraser.
